Sonadia

Sonadia Island is located about seven kilometers away from Cox’s bazar and the area is about nine square kilometers long. The island’s western side is sandy and there are different types of shells on the beach. There are windowpane oyster beds off the northern part of the island. Fishermen set up temporary tents on the island during the winter, and fishes from the Dries River that they capture from the river.

Since about 2006, Sonadia Island has been undertaking extensive research and surveys of the bird species present on the island by the Asian Waterbird Conservation Fund. They worked extremely closely with local communities to counter smuggling and illegal bird capturing by outsiders coming to the island and laying traps for some birds.

Not many people know about this Island. Very few people who have visited this place experienced something extravagant that cannot be explained in words. Truly magnificent.
